The looksy story once upon a time.

Well it all started when Jake Pearce 3C was asked to write a book defining ‘digital natives’ or Generation C. He just thought writing a book about digital natives or Generation C was silly…he thought that’s old skool, why not get digital people say who they are themselves? But he then started thinking BIGGER. What if we made the biggest film ever…with the most number of people in it and making it? What if that collaborative film that never stops evolving. What if that became a new genre of film? Death to the sequel try continuel. And what if we can sell this film to corporate people who want to know about ‘us’ in return for some dosh to create up and coming filmers to practice their craft? What if we could split the money between the people who put in the effort to start looksy, (see the people) the film makers and the people who will plant Kauri trees to save the planet. (The best way to reduce CO2 is to plant trees, it is that simple).

What if environmentalism could be easy, fun and good for different groups of people?

It would be a threesome – yep you read it right – 1/3 of the cash going to tree planting, 1/3 going to the film makers and 1/3 to the looksy people who had put in effort organising it.

Jake knew this was a crazy idea. It had a special name ‘social enterprise’ and people often couldn’t make it work. The reason was the perceived distrust between corporates and entrants. He wanted to break this down – so we could foster true mutual trust based on openness, he’s a guy who thinks ‘young’ ie he is curious and has contacts with genuine people in corporates who want to make a difference.

But he had no money for something like this. Nothing. But he knew a good idea has a life of its own and it just wouldn’t leave him alone.

So he went looking for other crazy people who believed in thinking BIG. Volunteers to make the dream of looksy real.
