There are no rules….timing and deadline. One of the people say about film competitions is a) there are too many rules b) their work doesn’t get shown.

So we promise that all work will be shown, irrespective of how it ‘received’ looksy is here to help you hone your talent. The second thing is filmers want to film, experiment and express and lots of film competitions can have lots of rules…so we’ve kept these to a minimum, to make it your voice, your film

A ‘Looksy’ is a 3-4 minute web video which answers one simple question: What does your digital world look like? This is a chance to show the world why you’re unique. This is a chance to show the world how you’re using digital technology. Your voice. Your video.

To be eligible each video must have an ‘except 1’ piece a 1 minute video tagged onto the 3-4 minute video. (See below)

Deadline is September 30th 2010.

Less than 50 submissions prize money is $1000 over 50 it is $10,000

If we receive under 50 submissions by September 30th 2010, the prize money will be $1,000. However, if we receive over 50 submissions by September 30th 2010, the prize money will be $10,000People who submit to the project will have the chance to produce web video for clients and get paid for it.

Think of looksy as an audition for a range of prizes, ongoing film projects and experiments

Think of your Looksy as an audition. On September 30th 2010, the community will vote for the 10 best submissions, which will be screened for a panel of judges, who will award the cash prize of $10,000. However even if you don’t win or don’t get in the top 10 there will be many other opportunities in the future.

There are no rules…what will the judges look for?

There are no rules, (Except 1) unlike any other film competition you can answer the question anyway you like. Every entry will get screened at the first looksy day we’ll be having which will celebrate your content. Let’s say that again. You will have the opportunity to show your film at the looksy day irrespective of where you were placed. If you didn’t get in the top 10, well you just need practice and that’s what looksy is here for to give you an opportunity to practice your craft. The date for the New Zealand looksy day will be announced soon it is likely to be around November.

The community will vote on who should be in the top 10 out of 100 with an additional 5 gaining automatic entry for getting in an entry prior to 7th September 2010.

  • The winner will move the judges emotionally with tears of happiness, laughter or sadness
  • The winning film will make the judges feel they know the person’s digital world most completely in 3-4 minutes
  • The winning film must contain an ‘Except 1’ piece
  • The winner will receive $10,000 dollars as a cheque on the looksy day
  • To give away the prize money we will need to receive 100 entries by September 30th 2010
  • If we receive less than 100 entries the prize money will drop to $2,000
  • The first 50 received by September 7th will go into the automatic pass pool – Lewis will award a surprise prize (high tech phone) and 5 of the entries will go into the first round of judging.
  • All entries must be uploaded here http://www.youtube.com/user/LooksyGenC
  • Except 1 rule

Every entry must submit a one minute extra piece tagged on to the 3-4 looksy explaining on what occasion you prefer to use Facebook vs other digital media, text versus other digital media, twitter versus other digital media or You Tube versus others.(Any social media platform you use to communicate). Is it a function of time of day? Mood? Ease? Identify the key reasons why you would communicate using one versus the other. What ‘spins your wheels’

Why? Because one of the kind people who are giving us the prize money to make all this possible want to know – that’s the deal we made with them or there would be less prize money. So its very Robin Hood (without the stealing) – the Except 1 allows us to do the film competition so we feel it is a fair trade and they are being up front and open about it. They don’t want more.

We get to do our fun stuff if we help them understand us a bit. (link to Cash, Mr ASH)
